How To Determine The Quality Of Wheel Spacers?

A high-quality wheel spacer consists not only of the spacer itself but bolt/stud, lug nut, surface treatment, machining precision, etc as well. All aspects of these should be certified; only every aspect is up to standard, which will provide adequate protection to the owner.

Wheel Spacers:

Firstly, Manufacturing Processes.

Two production methods typically exist in casting and welding. Two very different ways of production are forging and casting. Forgings typically have less porosity of the base, a more delicate structure of the grain, higher tensile strength, stronger life/strength of fatigue, and more excellent ductility than castings. Forgings are better for shackles in general. The mechanical properties of forged pieces are, thus, superior to casting.

Secondly, Manufacture Material.

Different factories will choose other materials, and there will be tremendous differences in the mechanical properties of different materials.

Forged Material possesses a better performance; particularly, the forged aluminum alloy material 7075-T6 can meet the demand in different extreme environments (rally, cross-country, etc.). It’s the best pick. Due to the recycled casting wheel spacer’s poor mechanical performance, it may only use the casting wheel spacer in a low-stress setting, which can pose a significant threat to the driver’s safety.


Bolt is more critical than the spacer body components in the wheel spacer system. Bolt/Stud directly affects the performance of protection, so they are essential accessories.

Along with the test study, the successful product is still together and can withstand many tests. There is a standard for Bolt/Stud to check the availability. Usually, 6.8,8.8,9.8,10.9 grade, etc., are the standard of wheel hub Bolt/Stud. If the truth is a 10.9 Bolt/Stud rating, that’s safe enough. And the qualification must be valid 10.9 grade Bolt/Stud, and they engraved it with the trademark. SCM435 or better should be the stuff.

Lug Nuts:

This is another significant wheel spacer part. They have grade 6 and grade 8 levels. And it can use the 10.9 grade bolt along with an 8-grade lug nut. Healthy quality nuts should also have passed heat treatment times and gave the salt spray test, and the trademark was engraved. We expect the material to be 45 # steel or better.

Treatment Of Surfaces:

There are four surface treatment methods for Bolts/Studs/Nuts generally speaking: galvanized, black, chrome plating, dacromet. Galvanized, black, cheaper; chrome plating, dacromet, more costly.

The better choice will be a Hard Anodized surface treatment for the spacer.

Precision In Machining:

As described above, the machining accuracy of high-quality wheel spacers should be as described.


High-quality wheel spacer: Forged process, Aluminum Alloy Material 7075-T6/6061-T6, 10.9 Grade Bolt/Stud and 8 Grade Heat-Treatment Nuts with certification, 72 Hours NSS Tested, 0.01mm-0.05mm precision machining, etc.
